Reclaiming Joy: The Quest to Truly Do Something for Yourself

Talking with a lot of women lately one theme keeps coming up... how do we do something for ourselves without feeling guilty or selfish? Let's face it, we live in a society that constantly tells us to put others first, to prioritize productivity over pleasure, and to constantly be on the go. But here's the thing: taking care of yourself isn't selfish, it's necessary! As the saying goes, "you can't pour from an empty cup."

Even when I ask my friends "what do you ever do for yourself?" I usually hear something like "getting old to-dos done" "finishing this for so and so" "get my nails done" and I started trying to figure out why those things don't always feel like ENOUGH to really start filling our cup enough to have that "my cup runneth over" that we need. Don't get me wrong, checking off to-do lists can feel amazing and who doesn't love a fresh manicure? But what I'm talking about here is deeper than that. I'm talking about investing in activities that truly light us up, that bring us joy and fulfillment on a soul level.

So, what does it truly mean to do something for yourself? What do you all do to truly just invest in yourself with no other hidden motives? I am currently on the hunt for amazing suggestions because I'm realizing that I too have forgotten what it means to truly prioritize my own needs and wants. Jay Shetty even talks about how one of the most powerful things he does for his wife is he asks her what she has done for herself today. And you know what? He's right! It's time for all of us to start taking our light dimmer switch into the other direction and shine as brightly as we were meant to.

But let's be real here, taking care of yourself is easier said than done. We're all busy, overwhelmed, and exhausted. That's why it's important to start small and build from there. Even just 10 minutes a day spent doing something that brings you joy can make a huge difference. It could be reading a book, taking a bubble bath, going for a walk in nature, or simply sitting quietly and meditating. Whatever it is, make it a non-negotiable part of your day.

And here's the best part: investing in yourself not only benefits you, but it benefits everyone around you too. When you're happier, more fulfilled, and more energized, you're able to show up as a better partner, friend, colleague, and human being. That's why I'm reaching out to all of you! I need your help and suggestions to start taking my light dimmer switch in the other direction! I'm a rookie, so be gentle... but my goal is to invest just 10 minutes a day at least into something that truly brings me joy. So, let's hear it! What do you do to invest in yourself? What brings you joy? Share your ideas and let's all start filling our cups together!
